Save the Date: Presidential Symposium, October 26
Plan to join President Robert Barchi and leading scholars on October 26 for the third 250th Anniversary Presidential Symposium on Higher Education, “The Value of the Humanities in the 21st Century.” The university will welcome speakers Pauline Yu, president of the American Council of Learned Societies and former dean of humanities in the College of Letters and Science at the University of California, Los Angeles, and British-born Ghanaian American philosopher, cultural theorist, and novelist Kwame Anthony Appiah, professor of philosophy and law at New York University. Additional details will be available soon.

RBHS Newark Goes Tobacco-Free November 17
Beginning November 17, the entire Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences’ Newark campus, including University Hospital (UH), will be tobacco-free. That also means free of electronic smoking devices. Protection of Minors Policy

The university’s Protection of Minors Policy promotes the well-being and safety of minors who participate in programs or activities run by or associated with Rutgers. The policy includes requirements relating to reporting suspected abuse or neglect of minors, registering programs or activities with the university, completing relevant online training, and undergoing background checks for authorized adults and people in direct contact positions as defined by the policy. Nonuniversity organizations that wish to conduct activities involving minors at Rutgers must ensure their programs are run consistent with the guidelines of the Protection of Minors Policy and the Guide to Working with Minors. July 1 Application Deadline for Funding for Cancer-Related Research Pilot Projects
Funding is available from the American Cancer Society and Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey for $50,000 pilot project grants to support cancer-related research projects that can be completed in 12 months. Eligible applicants include Rutgers and Princeton faculty members who are within six years of their initial academic appointment and do not currently have an award from a national peer-reviewed competition. For more information and to request an application, email cinjpilotprogram@cinj.rutgers.edu. Applications are due no later than July 1, 2016.

Contribute Photos to the Rutgers 250 Mosaic
There’s still time to submit photos demonstrating your Rutgers pride to the online Rutgers 250 Mosaic. Visit RU250Mosaic.rutgers.edu to upload photos or share images on Twitter and Instagram using #RU250Mosaic. Submissions will be added to the digital mosaic, which is fully searchable by names of individuals pictured. The final composite image will be revealed on Charter Day 2016—November 10—and printed for display in various Rutgers locations.
