Seeking Women Who Smoke for Dissertation Research Study
The RU Women Smoking Study is seeking women 18 to 65 who smoke cigarettes daily. They may be eligible to participate in a paid research study at the Emotion and Psychopathology Lab, Department of Psychology, School of Arts and Sciences, Rutgers University–New Brunswick. If eligible, they will be asked to participate in a 2.5-hour visit to a laboratory in New Brunswick, complete questionnaires, and perform various computer tasks. Compensation will be $100 to $150 for completing all study procedures. If interested, complete a 3-minute survey here.

Study Seeks LGB Women to Participate in Stress and Eating Study
The Emotion and Psychopathology Lab, Department of Psychology, School of Arts and Sciences, Rutgers University–New Brunswick, is seeking lesbian, gay, and bisexual women (18 or older) to participate in a research study of stress and eating. Participation involves a 65-minute in-person visit and using a smartphone app for five days to track stressful experiences and eating behaviors. Monetary compensation will be provided. #stemHERstoryRU Photo Shoots, New Brunswick
The #stemHERstoryRU initiative is geared toward celebrating and raising awareness of women who dedicate careers to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. As part of the #stemHERstoryRU campaign during March (Women's History Month), the university community is encouraged to attend photo shoots and explain why STEM is important. Photos will be displayed online and in the Busch, Douglass, Cook, and Livingston student centers from March 5 to April 9. Photo shoot times: March 1, Busch Student Center, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and March 2, Douglass Student Center, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Rutgers Youth Percussion Ensemble Begins March 4
The semester for the Rutgers Youth Percussion Ensemble begins March 4 and runs through June 3. The ensemble's mission is to help drummers and mallet players (13 to 18) develop into well-rounded, confident, and dynamic musicians. Rutgers Summer Dance Conservatory Auditions March 4
Rutgers Summer Dance Conservatory, designed for dancers 11 to 18, will hold auditions for summer dance on March 4 beginning at 6:45 p.m. at Nicholas Music Center, Rutgers University–New Brunswick. The summer dance sessions are July 16–21 and July 23–28. Experienced dancers work with professional choreographers in intimate repertory groups to create their own choreography and perform in two showcases. Rutgers Recreation Scuba Trips
Join Rutgers Recreation for two memorable scuba trips: to the National Aquarium, Baltimore, on April 29 and to Key Largo, Florida, for a dive trip May 16–22. At the National Aquarium, certified divers will dive in the coral reef exhibit to experience the aquarium underwater from behind the glass. Nondivers can join the trip to experience the aquarium. “Step It Up”: Take the 10K Steps-a-Day Challenge, Earn Chance at Prizes
As February is American Heart Month, Rutgers Recreation is encouraging the university community to "Step It Up" by committing to take 10,000 steps daily for a week. A total of 10,000 steps equals about 5 miles (400–500 calories), the daily recommended exercise by the American Heart Association and Centers for Disease Control. Rutgers Recreation will provide rewards for committing to a healthier lifestyle. First, pledge to take 10,000 steps daily, then log your steps each day from February 13 through February 19. Rutgers Recreation will present three daily rewards (21 in total) for logging steps. In addition, for every 10,000 steps you track, you earn one entry for a grand prize drawing on February 20. Winners must show proof of steps taken via a tracker of their choice (phone, fitness apps, Fitbit app, etc.). As a bonus, early pledgers are entered for a chance to win a prize. Art and Architecture: January 25, Piscataway
The Art and Architecture film series, providing a look inside, and the history behind, some of the world's most beautiful works of art, begins January 25 at 5:30 p.m. at Rutgers Cinema, Piscataway, and continues on alternating Wednesdays. The series debuts with Painting the Modern Garden: Monet to Matisse. Additional films include Renoir, Revered and Reviled; The Hermitage Revealed; and The Tempest. Strong CCLC Test Scores
According to a study of 1,600 kindergarteners attending Children’s Creative Learning Centers (CCLC), such as those in Newark and Piscataway, CCLC attendees are testing at first-grade levels in both reading and math by the seventh month of kindergarten. In addition, children who have attended CCLC for more than a year test 17 percent higher, on average, than their peers across the board. CCLC offers discounted rates to Rutgers faculty and staff. Janis Ian Performs prior to Inaugural Writers’ Conference
Participants in the inaugural Rutgers Writers' Conference: As a prelude to the conference on June 3 and June 4, attend a performance by legendary singer/songwriter Janis Ian on June 2 at 7:30 p.m. at the Victoria J. Children’s Choir and Scarlet Singers Auditions: January 18, Highland Park
Rutgers Children's Choir and Scarlet Singers will hold auditions on January 18 for students in grades 3 to 12 at Bartle Elementary School, Highland Park. Qualifications for choirs are a pleasant voice, a good sense of pitch, and a commitment to regular attendance and performances. The audition is a simple vocal assessment of a child’s readiness for a choral experience and ability to match pitch. It is friendly, interactive, and nonthreatening. New Brunswick Music Scene Archive Anniversary Exhibit
An exhibit commemorating the one-year anniversary of the New Brunswick Music Scene Archive is on display through the end of February at Alexander Library, Rutgers University–New Brunswick. Reflecting the history of the city’s independent music since the 1980s, the display features a wide variety of objects—from records and tapes to zines, flyers, and other ephemera—that were donated from the personal collections of those involved in the scene over the years. Learn more here.

Request to NJMS to Help Homeless Family
The Alumni Association–New Jersey Medical School (NJMS) is participating in the Rutgers Against Hunger (RAH) Adopt-A-Family program this year. The association was matched to a homeless family with two parents and two children and is reaching out to the NJMS community for much-needed items, including most non-perishable food products and household items. Zimmerli Study After Hours: December 15–16
The Zimmerli Art Museum, Rutgers University–New Brunswick, will remain open for 24 consecutive hours, beginning on December 15 at 10 a.m., providing a unique location for exam preparation. In addition to quiet gallery spaces with free WiFi and electrical outlets, the museum offers complimentary snacks, beverages, and study-break activities. Rutgers ID is required for entry after 4:30 p.m.
