Campaign for RULGBTQA Student Emergency Fund Ends Soon
Every semester, a few students in the LGBTQA community are in a financial bind. Some lose family financial support when they identify as a member of the LGBTQA community, while others experience economic difficulties for other reasons. The Center for Social Justice Education and LGBT Communities, Rutgers University–New Brunswick, and the LGBTQ and Diversity Resource Center, Rutgers University–Newark, are working with the Office of the Deans of Students and the Rutgers University Foundation to raise money for an RULGBTQA Student Emergency Fund. The aim is to raise $19,920 in honor of the center’s founding year, 1992. The campaign ends following the May 6 Rainbow Graduation ceremony for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Allies (LGBTQA) graduates. The idea for the special fund arose as more students approached the center with financial needs and applied for assistance through the Office of the Deans of Students. Click here to donate. Policy on Enhancing and Protecting the Rutgers Brand
The university’s policy on endorsements, sponsorships, and advertising balances the responsibility to preserve Rutgers’ globally recognized reputation and brand with desires to generate additional resources. This requires that the university’s name, which carries considerable value, be protected, and that activities and organizations associated with Rutgers be consistent with the university’s mission and commitment to integrity. Activities that may be affected by this policy include: being asked to comment on the university’s use of a vendor, product, or service; accepting financial support from external entities to cover expenses for scholarly meetings and colloquia; accepting funding from advertisers selling goods or services; allowing vendors to sell food at an event. The policy allows sponsorships and advertisements subject to certain conditions and in accordance with established guidelines, but direct or implied endorsements are not permitted except with prior approval by Rutgers’ Board of Governors.
